Hi, about a month or more ago I noticed a growth from the top of my Palm tree. I've only lived here 2 years so don't know how often this happens or even if it has happened before. How long will it last and what happens next please.
Thanks , Ian

Hi, welcome to GoY, I agree with Urbanite, Yucca, probably Y Gloriosa, the length of flowering can vary, but when it's finished flowering, remove the flower stem right back to the base, it could flower every year at the size it is, or it may not flower again for a few years, dependant on climatic conditions, Y Gloriosa are not completely hardy, whereas Y Filamentosa is, but this 1 doesn't get a tall trunk, and spreads outwards more, which is why I suggested 'Gloriosa' Derek.

When the flowers fade and start going brown, cut out the whole stalk at the base, where it originates from the leaves. You'll need loppers...
