I went to a garden centre earlier today. They had red and yellow onion sets " to be set between Feb and May" ! Presumably it's much too late to set some now ?

Hi Hank, yes it sounds as though they're trying to get rid of old stock, some places do this to unsuspecting gardeners, I don't like the practice, but it does happen, people think it must be ok, because the g c are selling them now, it's the same in the early part of the year, when they sell half hardy bedding plants at the end of march, so that you can buy replacements at the end of may, Derek.

I'd bung them in now, water well then harvest them as late as possible as smaller onions. Nothing to lose really other then a few pence.

Thanks, both, fortunately I didn't buy them when I saw them, and I'll wait 'till September as usual and set some then.

How do I say thanks?
