I am in awe of your beautiful gardens and photos.Amazed by how you know the names of all the different species.I sent for some scabios(only going by the colour and the flower head) to join the few I already had. They are small yellow about 24" tall and appear to float int he air .The one I sent for...........six foot tall with huge flowers.Such a lot to learn.

but that large scabious is such a good plant. I moved mine from mid to back of border this year as it was so much bigger than i expected. The bees love them. I also grow the wild one. collected from seed from the fields between Seaburn and Whitburn [outskirts of Sunderland] :o)

That sounds like a Cephalaria gigantea - and yes, it's enormous!

Here's an idea for you - keep a small book with you, with an alphabetical index, and write down the latin names of any plants that you see, on here or elsewhere, with a brief description.

We've all made mistakes - but we can all learn from them, too. Are you keeping your giant scabious?

I try that spritz and regularly fail to keep it up to date. :o)

Hi Scabious - why not try taking some photos of your flowers you might get a nice surprise at how well they come out? I know I do! Your pics would be well received on here too.
Its impossible to know/learn all the names and you can always post a pic here to ask what a plant is. Good luck with your gardening its addictive!

I agree it's impossible to remember all the names - my GOY plant list is invaluable for that! I still forget some of the less common ones, though - and have to ask a question here! :-(((

thanks Drc726.When I see the beautiful gardens/photos on here not sure its up to scratch.I do agree though gardening is addictive and, spurred on by looking at your gardens, I bought some plants at a nursery near us(prices where amazing). I was like a kid in a sweetie shop. Then to cap it off my plants, ordered 3 weeks, ago arrived...... like opening Christmas pressies .Heaven!!!!

Yes its is fun planting something new. Try a pic take your time? I tip I learnt from this site is, it is often better to take a long shot of say a bloom/frog and then do a close up of it when you put it on the computer.

Just googled images of the Cephalaria gigantea - wow, that's some plant! It looks like just what I need to replace the Buddleia that died, particularly if it attracts bees.

I keep a list of what I see and like on here since I often need to source it in the UK and bring it over to the Czech Republic where plant nurseries and garden centres are still fairly basic and tend to all have the same sorts of things.
