My waterbutt lid has fallen into the bottom of the butt!! It has been there for a while now as I cannot reach it. The water has a scum on it and I am not sure this is good. Should I try and cover it with something else or is there a way to freshen the water?

Just tip it and empty it out -- that way you can get the lid back if you want to put it back on

Our water butt is never covered and we use the water all the time without any problems.
