We are building an extension and will have to destroy a plant bed in which are a mature sweat pea plant, a fuchsia, a philadelphus (mock orange) and a mature .something that is like a hydrangea but isn't, Does anyone have any helpful hnts how I can safely transplant these to pastures new?

Something like a hydrangea but isn't could be viburnum.
If you have to move them the shrubs would be better left for a few months (late sept/October) or even left until spring.
moving them now, while the weather is warm and dry(ish) is not going to do them any favours.
