Looks like Colt's Foot. Not something I'd choose to keep.

Me neither, will have flowered in early spring, normally viewed as a weed.

Not Coltsfoot but Butterwort. Flowers in late winter with a very attractive pink domed flower. A woodland plant but shouldn't be too much of a porblem in a normal, open garden; not that I have ever seen it grown as a garden plant!

Many thanks for replies. I'm pretty certain I didn't plant this so will probably remove it.

Bulbaholic . . . Are you sure? I've always known this as colt'sfoot.

Butterbur have a domed pinkish flower in late winter; Coltsfoot has a yelloew daisey like flower in March/April, both before the leaves emerge. I believe that this is the earlier Butterbur as Coltsfoot would have a dark coloured 'hard' leaf by now. Both would have leaves that were dying off.

Pretty sure that's Coltsfoot. The leaves are in evidence at the moment.

I can see the resemblance now. Your first post said Butterwort, not Butterbur. When I googled Butterwort, it's way different. :-)

I agree with Bulbaholic that this is Butterbur (Petasites hybridus) which I have in my garden near the pond. It has a large leaf with a sort of 'bumpy' look and light hairs underneath.
Coltsfoot has a more pointed end to the leaf which grows 'up to' 20cm across, whereas Butterburr grow 'up to' 90 cm across.

How do I say thanks?
