I have an allotment that I wish to use next year to grow veg and potatoes. It is covered with a variety of different weeds. Is there a weedkiller I can use on an allotment or do I just have to dig the weeds up by hand?

If you are going to use it for veggies, its far better to just dig them up. Vinegar will kill the tops safely, but the perennial ones will just come back from the roots.

You can use weed killers if you don't intend to plant for a few months, as the chemicals will have died off by then but as an organic gardener there is no alternative too good old fashioned double digging!
