Hi everyone what a lovely day it is in hertfordshire. Just seen 2 squirrels in our garden playing hide and seek up the plum tree.

My question today is about our new allotment that i am sharing with my father.
We have planted so far runner beans, brussel sprouts and potatoes.
Is there any thing else I can start off now for later on in the year or early next year?
Or shall i just put down some weed matting as have been clearing some of the areas.

As my father has tried to put in 2 paths to divide the plot up a bit.

The 2 photos that i have put here are only part of the plot and where there are weeds it has now been cleared, a little bit more by me crawling around on hands and knees as can't use fork or spade due to deterioating neck disc trapping nerve that goes to my left arm.
I am going to have an epidural in neck in 2 weeks.

Also have to see about my nose as on way to physio a week last wednesday for neck went flying through the air and ended up skidding a few feet along the pavement on my nose had to be taken to hospital for gluing and stitching of nose.

Now seeing specialist today as doctor that i hadn't seen for over 4 years saw me on Monday and straight away said it is fractured. I am having to go private as local hospital have misplaced the urgent referral.

My husband is the veg gardener but I believe you could sow broad bean seeds now so that they will be ready to plant out in the autumn. An autumn sowing, for some reason, helps prevent black fly next year.

How about root vegetables? Carrots & Parsnips. Don't forget parsnips must go through a couple freezes to become sweet and delicious.
