hi i planted a tree / shrub ceanothus griseus var horizdntalis it seems to be growing well but i may have put the root too deep as the bottom branches are resting on the ground which is gravel a friend tells it will die in the hard weather of winter and advised me to put aprotective cover it the plant is yankee piont could any one advise

Hi, it should have been planted at the same depth as it was in it's pot, the soil at the top of the pot level with the soil in the garden, I would suggest that you scrape away some of the gravel, and your friend is right, it's only frost hardy, which means it can stand temperatures down to 23 deg f, any lower than that, without protection, and you will lose it, Derek.
