Onions - is this a problem ?

Firstly folks, please tell me the photo is the right way up.

I had about 30 onions in this small bed. The tops eventually turned yellow and toppled over and we took them up. They were a nice size and are now stored.
These last 5 or 6 are quite different, they have very dark green tops, show no signs of turning yellow and falling over like the rest, they're bigger and still growing. Is this nowmal or is there a problem with them ?
