Has anyone noticed an absence of butterflies in their garden. We have lots of butterfly loving plants and a couple of buddleia but as yet haven't seen a single Red Admiral and we normally have quiet a lot.

Yes definitely, have seen the odd white one but my buddleia bushes look odd without butterflies on them. I have noticed they come out when it's sunny but as we have had grey wet and windy weather for a long time haven't seen many at all. :(

Yes, I agree. Seen a few white ones but the others have deserted us. Maybe, as Amsterdam says, it's the windy weather.

Same here, a few Gatekeepers, Whites, a Peacock, a Red Admiral and a Small Blue. The Big Butterfly Count should make interesting reading this year.

Not nearly as numerous as years past but there are eggs on my milkweed plants.

Up until today hardly any but today I saw a peacock, some gatekeepers, a small white and a little blue one. I wonder if they aren't hatching - we have had a chrysalis on our bedroom wall all winter and its showing no sign of life at all. Our commonest one is usually the speckled wood but only seen one or two but this may be because we cut back all the brambles in order to paint the fence. (its a post and rail, and they come through from the other side...)

Very few butterflies, only the odd white one.

Yes I have - commented about this to my husband last week. But we did have an unusual one and when we looked it up it was called a 'gatekeeper'.
