Hi, can anyone help identify a tree in our garden. It's approximately 50 feet high. I attach a photograph of the tree, the needles and the bark. It loses all it's needles over the winter and they are not present again until May into June.

I don't think it's Larch, that has a different arrangement of leaflets. It might be Metasequoia glyptostroboides, the Dawn Redwood. Paintstripper, are the leaflets arranged in opposite pairs? I can't quite tell from the photo. Does it have good autumn colour?

I did think the trunk was rather thick for larch.Should have remembered the arrangement of the needles. If Landgirl is right its a good job you appear to have plenty of room for it!

Hi, welcome to GoY, when the words deciduous, and needles, I automatically think Larch, { Larix }, but on this occasion I agree with Landgirl, Derek.

Totally wrong shape for Metasequoia. It could be a Taxodium distichum

Looks like a larch - very attractive in spring when the new needles grow.
