when and how can i split my very healthy canna
{tropicanna*black}
i wish to have more of this plant next season
i am awere it is not an easy plant to care for
at a convent in parbold a few years back a gardener
introduce me to this plant now with time i would like
to grow some from cuttings

when it dies back in the autumn [not frost hardy so will need indoor protection shed/garage etc] you will find there is an undersoil rhizome. you will find there are swellings along it and these will become next years shoots. Using a clean sharp knife cut the piece into sections with a dormant shoot on each piece. repot into suitable compost and keep frost free. or you can wait until spring and cut then when the shoot buds are starting to swell. I tend to do mine in the spring as there is less chance of rotting from the cut surface.
