I noticed a question last year regarding a weakening Japanese Willow. We have one that this year produced leaves which after a few weeks went browna dn dropped off. Then a second flush of leaves appeared but these have recently (July) turned brown. It has been watered regularly and is in a mixed bed, having been prior to 2009, in a pot for a year.

This definitely sounds like a drought problem - when you say you've watered regularly, what, precisely, does that mean? How are you watering (can or hose or sprinkler) and how often? Trees need at least 2 gallons of water a week applied directly at the base for the first 2 years of being planted out during dry spells and in summer.
