I have moved house recently and the front garden, has 8 6ft sunflowers which are looking a bit sad, i.e. Drooping heads, brown leaves. What should I do with them?

Agree, hoick them out and compost them, but keep the heads separate if they have seeds in them.

They keep their heads up for pollination and when the seeds are ready, they turn their heads down. I keep them on because I enjoy watching the yellow finches(USA variety) feeding on the seed heads upside down. There are always some seeds that hit the ground so they come back every year either in the same place or somewhere else in the garden.

I cut the heads off and put them on the bird table one at a time. surprising how quickly the seeds disappear.

I should think they are finished now I would save the heads when they are dry for the birds.
