Emptying my compost heap I found tiny granular cerise, orange and yellow grains throughout from top to bottom. They are very hard but seem to be white inside when crushed. Photos attached.

Seeds from dead-heads or fruit you have put in the compost, possibly. They can be quite resistant to decomposition.

could also be fungal nodules but odd none the less.

Seaburngirl, could it be Frankia alni? though I've only ever known about it in association with tree roots...

yes it could be but we don't know what was put in the compost heap originally. I only know of it as a symbiont in trees/shrubs too but perhaps it hasn't read the books. !
