Hi, welcome to GoY, I think I would jst leave it for the rain to wash off, unless you're in a part of the U S A which doesn't get much rain, Derek.

The rain deals with ours.

Re Derekm's comment if you are in an area of the US that does not get much rainfall you will find it hard to grow Rhodo's. Bird poo on plants is a natural part of life!

The writer is asking how to clean off bird poop. Just answer the question.

The question has already been answered in that sense Bathgate! Rain will wash it off and, frankly, what is the big deal about a bit of bird dung on any plant in the garden! Birds poop on plants and, thank god they do - at least it shows they are alive! A garden is not a pristine area for humans it is an area where all nature interacts, including birds! I've had at least one gull shit on me when outside...

I agree with you. Frankly the birds can poop all they want on my rhodies but for whatever reason, the writer wants to clean it off - maybe for a photo op for "Home & Garden" magazine, or wedding ceremony or maybe his house is on the market.

If there is huge quantities of "slice", maybe they will also need to deal with the favored perch or nesting area above the rhodie. Rhodies aren't well adapted to low rainfall areas, but if rain isn't an option, I would hose it off several times, waiting several minutes between episodes, then gently rub stubborn spots with a wet cotton rag.

I'm also wondering how to clean bird poop off my ivy garden under a tree where birds hang out. I love the birds and don't mind some poop...but would like to occasionally have it looking nice--say if guests come over. It's pretty darn unsightly after months of build up,
and doesn't rinse off easily. I'm in SoCal...so no rain in sight.
I'll try the "multiple hosing off" sessions as suggested, since a single hosing doesn't do the trick.

Use a 50/50 solution of dish soap & warm water the spray with garden hose.
