Could someone please identify these flowers. My grandmother, native of Scotland, immigrated to South Dakota, later to California to marry my grandfather. These two flowers were pressed into her bible.

Gosh you could try sending to the RBGE but trying to ID a botanical specimen is a challenge particularly as they are sideways on! http://www.rbge.org.uk/contact-us Good luck!
One 'might, very much might' be a Flanders poppy the other could be an awful lot of plants!

Agree, send the image to RBGE, they have one of the finest herbarium specimum collections in the world.

They could have been flowers from her wedding bouquet. The pressed ones surrounding the central piece look alot like Baby's Breath(Gypsophila p.). My late wife did press some of the flowers from her wedding bouquet and kept them in a cookbook given to her as a bridal shower gift.

Could the purplish one be a cranesbill?

Too bad that there isn't a leaf or two included. They are very helpful as identifiers.

They're very pretty. The central one is a bit like a sweet pea.

A good-sized, high definition photo would be a big help to anyone trying to identify them, though.

Gosh you're right Sheila, so it does.

Thank you for the referral! The comment on the bridal bouquet is very interesting because my grandmother married in California in 1910. This could have well been the source.
This is a lovely site that is reflected in users.

Thank you one and all.

What is the RBGE??! Ooops - just tried the link, so now I know it's Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh . . . duh :))

lol Sheila! Not that they are likely to be able to help if the flowers are from California.

If so, the Smithsonian should be able to help. They also have a huge collection of herbarium specimens, from across the States.

How do I say thanks?
