Plant ID please. I bought this shrub last year from a market stall thinking it was wintersweet ( chhimonanthus) it has been flowering since December on bare stems but there is no scent and when I checked the flower in the books it doesn't look like the books. It doesn't seem to match Forsythia either as it has too many petals. I have forsythia aswell but that hasn't flowered yet. It seem to favour a horizontal habit.

That would be my guess to Hywel, can you take a photo of the whole shrub please Barbara

That is a winter jasmine, Jasminum nudiflorum, flower and stem. Barbara's description fits perfectly.
I just learned something new - right click on the picture and select 'view image' and it turns it rightway up!

Thanks all. Checked on RHS site and matches. I think I will need to move it so it can be trained on a wall. Do I prune before moving it?

Doesn't work on my laptop, Bulba. "View picture" isn't one of the choices.

If it is quite small then don't prune it. If you have had it in the ground less than a year it will be fine. if longer then make sure you take as much soil with the root ball that you can safely lift to help it settle in better.

If you didn't want to move it, you could grow as a small arching shrub.
