It's a Hawthorn Paul's Scarlet 45 litre. The bottom part is brown middle part seems to go orange and the top part and branches are brown. Please see picture

I've looked at the picture - its too far away to see any detail, need a close up or three, showing in particular the base of the part that's turned orange, where it joins the bottom that isn't orange. And when you say 'keeps turning orange', what does that mean - does it alternate between brown and orange since you planted it? Please also say whether there is anything else that shouldn't be there higher up, on the topgrowth, such as lumps and bumps, discolored areas, obvious infestation or die back.

Thanks the top of the tree is fine has no bumps or discolouration. I will take a closer pic later on just out at the moment. Do you think it could be from not planting it low enough into the ground? It changes from brown to orange after a few days

I remember that many of the Hawthorn trees in Flagstaff had naturally orange bark on the younger trunks and branches, especially in cold weather. Unfortunately, the picture is a little too blurry to tell if that is the case with your tree, Sandoz.

When you say 'it changes from brown to orange after a few days', do you mean that at some point after that, the orange changes back to brown?

And does it change in certain weather conditions?

Ah, I was writing my comment while you were posting your answer, Sandoz.
Generally, it is better to plant a tree a little too high, than a little too low. You want the area where the trunk expands into the roots--the "root flair"--to be exposed after planting.
Still need the pictures, though, to see exactly where and how it is turning orange.

You have this young tree properly staked and planted, now give it time and let it grow and MATURE.

Thanks all for the comments I will definitely take a closer pic tomorrow. The tree can be okay for most of the time but can go bright orange all of a sudden. For example when I look out the window in the morning.

I thought it was to do with it not being watered enough. So when it turns orange I give it a good watering and it goes back brown after a couple of hours. However today it went orange but we had torrential rain. So I am thinking it's not linked to watering. I also find it strange that it is only orange in the middle of the trunk. When it turns lighter you can still see a hint of orange. Any comments appreciated. Thanks
