I have had great success with Salpiglossis in sunny positions , but now I have a garden that only gets the late afternoon , early evening sun , will they still thrive ?

Hi, and welcome from me too, I agree with Moon-grower, full sun is best, but at least partial sun is needed, if I were you I would have a look at some other half hardy annuals, there are loads to choose from, Derek.

I tried them under shade screen once here, and they got badly infested with mildew.

Hi Snowdropvalley and welcome to GoY. I very much doubt it, it needs full to partial sun, you don't say which part of the UK you are in which could also make a difference.
