I am thinking of planting an Acacia golden mimosa in a small wooded area of the garden. My garden is quite high up and we do get frosts (none this year)! Would anyone be able to give me some advice. Also how many years do I have to wait for the flowers?!
This little area has been opened up because one of the trees had to be cut down due to being unsafe. What is the best way of getting rid of all the ivy?

Well this isn't a small shrub and grows to 10 metres if you are planning to plant where there used to be another tree you need to ensure you've removed all the roots and added nourishment to the soil. If the ivy is where you are planning to plant then you need to have serious programme of removal prior to planting! The shrub needs full sun and south to south west aspect.

How about a witch hazel instead if you want dainty yellow flowers? Its a joy at this time of year, & much smaller and happier in woodlandy places, even it its a bit boring in summer...

Hello.....I don't think the location you mention is suitable for an Acacia. It's not a woodland tree. It requires a sheltered site in full sun and is naturally grown in the Mediterranean region. if I were you I would plant a tree that is native to your area.
