Last year I used grow bags and other containers for tomatos, potatoes, beans and squashes. I'd like to re-use some of the compost. I presume I shouldn't use the tomato compost for potatoes ( and vice versa) but can I re-use either for the runner & broad beans?

I can't see any problems regarding the beans but i must admit that I find that re-using grow bags tend to pick up lots of moulds as they have been wet and in an enclosed plastic bag for a long time. It would be better to spread the compost over the flower beds. Don't forget to add some feed to the old compost to re-generate.

I agree with Jimmy. Tomatoes, squashes, etc are extremely greedy plants and have used up much of the nutrients and "good stuff" in the compost in the grow bags. If you want to reuse the old compost, you'll need to recondition it so the new crops have something to live on. For me, that's too much bother. I would dump it and start with new compost.

How do I say thanks?
