Help identifying a plant please.
I have a lot of this ground cover plant. It is approximately 8 inches high and the leaves are green, serrated, spearate. I think it is evergreen given that it was in this state in February. There are a lot of dead reed-like stalks which I presume are last years flower stems.
If my location etc help to identify it, I live in the north-west of England and the soil is a loam. The position of the plant is on the edge of a lawn, emerging from under shrubs and trees. South-facing aspect.

The leaves on my Persicaria are longer and more pointed, plus it isn't very green right now though it will be as the season progresses.

I think it may well be one of the Persicarias, but its hard to be certain without more growth, in particular, flowers - the growth at the base is new growth this year, the long stems are from last year and they should be cut back. The other thing it MIGHT be is one of the Houttuynias, again, hard to be sure in its current stage of growth.

I'd also go for persicaria but its difficult to be precise as there are many cultivars around.
