I am trying to install an inexpensive watering system for greenhouse holiday watering gravity fed from a raised water butt. Is it feasible to water into a capillary matting filled water Tay holding plant pots of tomatoes and cucumbers or does it have to go into pots. This will be drip fed

You will need an outside tap of some decryption for the timer.
Hozelock do a kit with all the things you need, you just buy as much or as little as you need.

Yes, you can do it. I assume they are much like the ones in the US. It's just a matter of "know how" and acquiring the proper hardware. Seek assistance from the DIY/Garden Center pros.
