I have some Clematis in pots, they have been growing for a while & are in bud, I want to put them in the ground, would it be ok to cut them back now and put them in the ground or should I let them flower then do it in the Autumn.
I would have done it earlier but my health hasn't been too good.

if they are in pots plant them but you wont need to prune them back. you may have to get an extra pair of hands if there is a lot of top growth.

Landgirl. They don't seem to make labels that last, I always say I will draw a map of my garden and put down the name of plants on it but alas I never have done LOL, they are spring flowering ones.
Seaburngirl. I did think of that but they are all wrapped round the arch LOL, I will have a go at unwinding them but I expect they may snap being so fragile.
Thanks for your replies :o))

It rather depends on which species, do you still have the labels?
