i have an old cooking apple tree which has lots of blossom but the tips of the branches develop what looks like mildew or mould, the leaves and blossom wither and then dry up and go brown and bears no fruit. i have sprayed with anti fugal and mould preparations with little success. how can i solve this problem ? this year loads of blossom but very few apples

It's probably dieback disease. You could prune hard back in the winter. Winter wash spray may help. Spread a good dressing of well rotted manure round the base. Water well through the spring and summer next year. Also buy a new tree to get it growing well before your old tree dies.
