yes and they will grow and you may get something very pretty and different to the parent tree.

the seeds are small winged seeds like you get from sycamores. we used to call the whirly birds or helicopters when we were little. They tend to be no longer than an inch long in the 'blade'. they are usually in pairs.

Thank you Seaburngirl that will be very difficult for me then to distinguish as I have a massive Sycamore tree over hangs my garden from the church yard next door I have thousands of seeds and saplings all over my garden from that.

you will spot the difference the acer seeds are smaller I meant to say less than an inch long blade. if you look at the sycamore seeds in about june when they are forming that is the sort of size of the acer seed.

Depending on the variety of japanese acer, the keys are often slightly pinkish anyway.

Thank you Bamboo I have several different kinds I shall be keeping my eye out to see if any are forming before they drop to the ground.

Maybe you should keep a close watch to see if any of your acers actually flower - if they do, its early to mid spring, so they should either be doing it now, about to do it, or have finished, and the flowers are small, you probably wouldn't notice them if you weren't looking closely. No flowers means no seed anyway...
