We're moving to a new house and will be putting in a couple of veg plots. We both like the Buddleia bush and the butterflies it attracts, so is it OK to have a Buddleia near the veg plot, away from it, or not at all ?
Thanks for replies, I was just a bit concerned about pesky caterpillars munching my brassicas ! Have had Buddleia before and pruned them hard if they look like getting too big.

As long as it doesn't block the light - Buddleia get big.

Well they can if they aren't pruned hard

If you plant the buddleja on the north side of the veg plot it wont shade it. Cut it very hard back in late March or thereabouts.
I think you'll find that caterpillars will find your cabbages without any help form the Buddleja. You can net them, fleece them or plant a Malva moschata alba with them - the butterflies arrive as usual, fly around but don't land on the cabbages! Diane Bulley told me this and it really works)
