I had a large beech hedge over 100yrs old and 7ft high bushy but it was trimmed every year. A friend said it needed a good cut back. She has cut it to 5ft high but taken all branches off now bare trunks. (April 2016) It has been butchered and looks terrible. Says it will grow back I have to be patient. Will it ever grow back. No leaves yet.

Agree it will grow back you are just going to have a year when it doesn't look good.
