It's a Hypericum, as Pam says - looks as if its been cut back hard at some point, judging by the thickness of the wood on the stem, so likely its Hypericum Hidcote.

thank you Bamboo, just googled it. Do you think it will still flower after its been cut back? it seems healthy.

Oh yes, it will flower, and grow apace - its tough as old boots and gets 6 x 6 feet high and wide if left. Always prune back hard after flowering - but you may not get many flowers this year, as its pretty small.
