Lots and lots of flowering evergreen shrubs pics on the Goypeadia 'Evergreen shrubs' page - go to the bottom of this page select the letter E then select Evergreen shrubs. Hope this inspires you Guest?

The trouble with quick growing things is that they don't know you want them to stop at 5 feet. They just keep on blasting upwards, so you're left with a lot of pruning and trimming to keep them within bounds.

I think your best bet would be to compromise on the speed of growth and have a shrub that will fill the space a little bit more slowly.

How about Escallonia, Viburnum tinus, Hebe (lots of choice here), Mahonia, Camellia if you have acid soil, Santolina (might be a bit small), Olearia.

Im a big fan of choisya ternata (Mexican orange blossom) which is fairly quick growing nice glossy leaves and masses of small white flowers in the spring
