At the end of my garden, on my neighbour's property is a large sycamore tree (about 40ft) which is acting as a breeding ground for greenfly (aphids). if you look up, you can see that every leaf, even right up to the top, is covered with aphids. Certain plants in my garden are being battered by these aphids again and again, and that spot in the garden, near the sycamore, is a no-g area as if you sit there even for a couple of minutes, the greenfly drop on you and before long you have a large number in your hair and all over you. Not very nice. I have sprayed my roses, willow tree and other plants in my own garden, plus did a little spraying over the wall, but the size and height of the sycamore means that I can't spray that much of it, and I am fighting a losing battle. Does anyone have any advice?

PS - the neighbouring land, at the back is a supermarket, and the sycamore and other trees planted there act as a screen against the not very attractive building. It would be a shame if an infestation of any kind damaged the trees permanently.

Sycamores are bad for aphids. They drop honeydew on things underneath them - we have to park the car away from the trees in summer or it gets all sticky. Nothing to be done about it sadly. Sounds as though you have a particularly bad infestation this year - what you need is a plague of ladybirds...

It's not your tree so there is not much you can do other than make your neighbor aware of your problem. Since the solution will cost money......well.....
