help for ailing asparagus?
By George_lemay
United States
This asparagus patch has had years of good yield including this spring. But now that I've let it go to seed, the usually green & vigorous branching tops are mostly pale tan, dry, straw-like & lifeless. I see no parasites; nothing is different. Would appreciate any suggestions of possible causes and/or remedies.

What part of the States are you in, George? Parts of the west have been suffering from severe drought this year. Also, how in the world have you been preventing it from going to seed? The only way that I know of is to cut off the blooming fronds, which would have the same effect on the plants as the present browning!

As no asparagus growers have replied I'm just wondering whether letting it go to seed was the reason? Just a guess.
