I have this tree in my yard and I just thought it was a shade tree. I noticed a few weeks back a little green fruit-like ball starting to grow and when I checked recently, this it what it had turned into. Anyone know what this could be? Is it edible?

This is a persimmon tree. Persimmons are very nutritious. Just wait until they ripen so much that they feel soft.
