Do I cut off the dying blooms on my lilac tree?

well sometimes I do as they go a yucky brown colour. but you don't have too.

Well, that's odd . . . I recently read in a gardening column in the press that it's best to cut off the blooms when they have turned brown. As seaburngirl says, you don't HAVE to, but apparently you will get fewer flowers if you don't!

Most of the lilacs that I have seen are sizable. That's a heck of alot of work... Maybe they recommend to do it because they have never done it.

Aaah - that's a point Loosestrife. My own are only 6ft tall, so chopping the brown (dead) flowers would barely take 10 minutes. I guess Flowerpower will make up her own mind . . .
