I have just bought 2 bamboo trees approx 10ft high, can I replant them into very large planters.

Yes - but you will have to turn them out of the containers every couple of years or so to cut them in half and then return only half to the pot. Warning - if you want it in the ground, use a root rhizome barrier to contain them, they spread all over the place.

Giant woody perennial too rather than a tree. All growth comes ultimately from the base Guest :-) sorry to be a pedant.
