After all the trouble I had with an ivy plant

That grew all over my brick arch and took ages to get rid of, I've now let one another grow along my fence. I've been removing it and will soon be cutting it off at the base where it is 4 inches in diameter.
Could someone please remind me of what I must do to prevent it re- growing. I know you did this only about a year ago but I have a memory like a goldfish. Thanks.

Hi Hank. If you cut it down at ground level, the shock will almost certainly kill it. Wait for the foliage to turn brown, and it will then be easier to remove it from the fence.

If you want to kill the root, cut the whole thing down to a stump as close to the ground as possible, drill into it with a largish wood bit to make holes about quarter inch deep, fill up the holes with neat SBK (without spilling it anywhere), cover with something like an upturned flower pot or whatever, and leave it to die.
