I'm thinking C. speciosa, actually. Similar flowers, though, and hybridized with C. japonica to make modern flowering quince varieties.

Common Quince (Cydonia oblonga), the ingredient of many jellies and preserves, is different from the Flowering Quince (Chaenomeles species), and shows it in its glossy, thin, wedge-shaped leaves, and thin twigs. Common Quince foliage looks more like longish apple leaves. Flowering Quince fruits are edible, but usually sparse, and highly variable in flavor. It's usually grown for its showy white, pink, salmon, tomato red, or crimson flowers.
