I have three hostas planted in a bed which is covered with weed suppressant cloth and then topped with wood bark. They are being attacked and one is completely eated away. I cannot see any sign of anything on them nor any slugs or snails around. I surrounded then with anti slug pellets and dribbled them into the hole where they come out of soil but they are still being eaten. Can anyone help please? regards, Barbara Tomo

You won't see slugs, they hide themselves away during the day and I bet they're under the bark and weed suppressant. Go out after dark and have a look for the critters.

Yes, membrane is an ideal hideyhole for them but if pellets didn't work you could try a slug trap?

Do you have any squirrels or voles in the garden? They can eat the whole plant right down.

Which slug pellets have you used? Are they 'organic' ones or do they contain metaldehyde?

How do I say thanks?
