In my friend's garden the top half of many of her plants have dried, turned brown and died, whilst the bottom half looks completely healthy. What could be the cause of this?
One plant is somewhat different in that the top half has been stripped of foliage, rather than turned brown and withered.
Help!!
Thank you.

Just wondering whether someone nearby has been spraying weedkiller. The plant that's been stripped may have been eaten by slugs or caterpillars - impossible to say from just the description.

A photo or two would be useful in seeing what is happening. Are the plants annuals, biennials or perennials?
