Which one did you like? My favourite is P. tenuifolium 'Irene Paterson' - most get pretty big, but can be pruned back, best planted in Spring where you are, can be a little bit tender, specially when young, so plant in a sheltered, sunny spot.

thanks Bamboo will look that one up to see colour etc.Do they flower at all?

Yes they do - but you probably won't notice! They're tiny little things, though they are fragrant, so pick one that you like the look of -its the leaves you'll be seeing all the time. Also check out Berberis darwinii (prickly, but lovely orange flowers in spring, looks great early in the year with Spiraea Goldflame in front) Elaeagnus varieties (some good leaf colours there) and Osmanthus. All evergreens - oh , and obviously, Pieris in shadier spots, variegated evergreen foliage on some varieties.

Have just found a flicker site with all varieties of them what wonderful leaves they all have......love the" Irene Paterson" and also "Garnettii" I have a Berberis dawinii in another part of my garden that is being dismantled would I be able to move it? although it is quite large.I have a Vibernum bodenese Dawn(spelling) and would like to move this ....when will be the best time with it being a winter flowering plant.?

I think Garnettii is the purply brown leaved form isn't it - I grew that years ago, but I don't like the way the new growth is green and takes a few months to turn dark, looks a bit weird, but other people don't mind it.
Your Viburnum - if its less than 3 years old, then move it late September/early October - if you get a good enough solid rootball round it, it may not even notice its been moved. If you break a few roots, you may have no flowers for a year, and it might be best, if you do break roots, to take down some of the top of the plant.

Afraid its a lot older than that about 6yrs I think. It has to be moved lets just hope I can save it..Think the Garnettii has a variegated green/paler leaf that turns light purple. Not too keen on the darker shades.

IN that case, you should reduce the top growth by about a third, and wait till the leaves have dropped off before moving it, but it should be done by the end of October or early November - after that, the soil gets very cold.

So will I reduce it now Bamboo?

No - when you're moving it.
