I've got a major problem with my mature russett apple tree. Last year I had very little frui, but this I've had almost no blossom, the leaves are turning brown and dropping and it is devoid of fruit. Any ideas?

Of course it is diseased. You would be the best one to find out which one it is by looking closely at the leaves and bark for signs. Every disease has its own signature. There are good websites with pictures of the diseased parts of apple trees together with the identification of the associated disease and treatment recommendations for it.
