Bare Pyracantha branches. I suddenly noticed that some branches on my pyracantha have gone all bare? Any ideas what might cause this? Can't see any evidence of pests. Could it be lack of water?

this regularly happens to mine at this time of year and there is fresh growth starting again. I suspect it is the older leaves responding to climate [lack of water as you suggest].
if there doesn't appear to be any disease I wouldn't worry unduly.
give it plenty of water and see if new shoots grow.

Yes, my first thought would be drought.
