One area of my Cornish garden is to have its soil level raised by 450mm/18". In this area I have a 5 year old photinia/red robin tree whose 70mm diameter trunk is only 300mm/12" long therefore it will be covered when the new level is finished. Will it survive this change or should I try and dig it up and re-plant. One suggestion has been to leave the tree in place but surround the buried trunk area with wood chippings. The work is due to start in Mid September.
