Is it best to leave daffodil / tulip bulbs in tubs to flower again next year or plant them in the ground

I have had some in large tubs for about 5 yrs and they come up every year. I do feed them every spring and plant drought tolerant plants in them for summer so they do get plenty of time to ripen.

Only if they are planted deeply enough, and you can insulate the tubs well enough to keep the bulbs from actually freezing.
