It's been a while since I last logged onto GOY I hope you are all well.

My witchhazel, Hamamelis x intermedia Jelena, usually starts to bloom around now so am not surprised to see it coming into flower but am wondering why the flowers this year are a definite yellow rather than the orange/red they usually are.

It's been in the same spot for 3 years now therefore just left to it's own devices without feeding or interference from me. It grows on a single stem with a bare trunk for about 2ft so know it is not a sucker from root stock if that is a possibility and can't find a graft further up the plant either. But the fact that the yellow flowers are on most of the stems I have kind of ruled that out too.
Any suggestions?

Could be the weather. Strange things have been happening to plants this summer.

Hello Scottish, nice to hear from you again.
Lots of folk have mentioned colour changes this year - stranage.

Thanks Arbuthnot - I had thought the weather might be the cause. I will be interesting to see if the colour reverts as the months progress.

It has been a strange year Steragram. I've got a rhoddie in bloom and despite flowering prolifically earlier not a single berry on the pyracantha. Thanks for the welcome back. I hope you are well. I just read on blog post that you've finally got yourself a TV. There are many gardening programmes on and Beechgrove Garden (set in Scotland) is a good one to catch but I am not sure just which day it is shown down there with you. I'm sure someone will advise.

Thank for that Scottish. Not a soul gave me any info!
We ahven't got a TV - just a dodderer's licence so we can watch on the laptop if we feel like it!

Stera, I have tried to find schedules for TV gardening programmes but it's really difficult!

I have found that Beechgrove is on BBC2 on 11 Sept at 09.40( Tomatoes and Pond Planting) and again on 14 Sept at 19.30 (Bulb planting), hope that helps you.

BBC Gardeners World is on Friday evenings, BBC2 ,now an hour long show.

I don't rate Beechgrove all that much though we do watch it. For starters I don't much care for Carole though I couldn't say why, but apart from that I don't find it particularly informative anyway.

I am beginning to get involved in Garden Rescue though and I do like Gardener's World. Monty Don is a good presenter though I know Bamboo hates him!

Thank you Shirley and Arbuthnot. I'll see if I can find them. Apart from everything else it would be nice to see Monty Don after all everyone keeps saying about him!
I hadn't even heard of Garden Rescue -that sounds interesting.

I think Garden Rescue is on on Tuesdays around 6.45. We record it so I can't be sure. There's a lot of fun in it: Charlie doesn't seem to have changed much since her Ground Force days though she is somewhat larger. Some of the designs are very interesting and it's an easy programme to watch.

I'm sure you'll find something you'll enjoy Steragram. The BBC allow you to search on specific topics. ITV etc probably have the same.

Arbuthnot - I was never a fan of Beechgrove either but since another female presenter left I think it's much better. The female presenter I refer too is the one I couldn't stick. She owns one of the GCs I regularly use and it's a top quality place but she's just as dour in real life. I've met Carole too - she's very nice and very down to earth.

Garden Rescue is good too but I think the Rich Brothers are aptly named and in the right game for it!

How do I say thanks?
