Tree id please. Sorry not really garden related but could anyone id this tree that's been cut down? Seems a really hard wood . Chainsaw struggled with it and the log splitter won't touch it . Thanks for any replies.

Sorry no ! I didn't cut it down just aquired some logs for my wood burning stove .

Hi Tyke. It's Alder, we grow it, cut it and burn it. Fast growing tree, likes damp ground, really hard but best to season for a year.

You're welcome Tyke. It burns well, you won't be disappointed. It's a good tree to grow too, the goldfinches like the seed. We always set new trees when we cut one down and alder actually seeds around so all good
