I have a real problem with badgers in my garden. I live next to a horses field and woods beyond that. The badgers are coming in and using my raised boarders as their toilet. I want to plant bulbs for the spring and summer flowers. It can't. How can I stop the badgers? Pam

Very, very difficult. You need to find the point of ingress and block it off. Not that that will stop them. We have had to fence the whole of our perimeter and bury the wire netting to stop them. They are creatures of habit, so once you do disrupt their wanderings they do tend to go elsewhere. Best of luck.
And there is no point planting either Tulips or Crocus, they love them. Narcissus and Snowdrops are poisonous so they leave them alone.

The trouble with badgers is they are addicted to the routes they have used for years and they resist change. They do dig bulbs up and eat them - a right pain.Short of securing your boundaries with netting I don' t know how to keep them out. I did try chilli pepper once and it worked for a bit but when I got a bit in my own eye I stopped doing it as being too cruel. Chilli flakes are sometimes used and wouldn't do the same damage to eyes but I don't know if it would work.

Thank you for the replies. I cannot put a fence up I kind of knew I wasn't going to win this fight. I will certainly plant snowdrop bulbs. I am also going to invest in some chilli flakes.

Sorry Owdboggy, we crossed.

As far as the chilli flakes or any irritant please don't use them. Life is tough enough for these guys and they don't need additional pain and discompfort heaped on top of what they experience every day.

They don't suffer much discomfort round here...

And it did not stop them coming into our garden.
