I have a fairly robust rose with predominately 5-leaf branches and flowers. I also have 7-leaf branches projecting from the same trunk (not the root stock) ressembling suckers on other roses (fast growing, light green leaves, red thorns, no flowers for the moment). Above, 5-leaf branches.
How is this possible - what to do?

Roses sometimes do put out stems with seven leaflets and its not an entirely reliable rule to use to judge whether they're suckers or not - the true guide as to whether they're off the rootstock is whether these shoots arise from above or below the graft point. Sometimes the graft point is above the soil, sometimes below (depending on how it was planted in the first place), but if its a standard rose, then the graft is at the top of the stem - a photo or two would be very helpful.

Personally I'd remove the branches with 7 leaves.
